A trip to the Sunday market

When my mom told me that she, my dad, and two of my relatives who came to visit us from Canada were going to leave at five in the morning to go to Sidcor, a sunday market that is near Trinoma and SM North Edsa, I immediately told her that I wanted to go with them.

I love the sunday market; it's a whole kaleidoscope of different lifestyles and I love getting lost in its colors. I brought with me my camera and nifty fifty prime lens because I actually want to be able to capture the life in the market. I also think that it's good practice for me, both personally and academically because I currently have a photojournalism class.

SAM Productions: Jacko Wacko Shoot

Last Saturday, I had a photo and video shoot with DLSU's ENGLICOM, one of the biggest organizations in the university for their event.

This was another project of me and my friends' production group called SAM Productions. I was the cinematographer and co-directed the shoot alongside Aldrin, who was the director.

Jacko Wacko is a music festival (as well as a foam party) to be held on the 7th of February this year from 4PM onwards at the Mall of Asia Grounds. Featuring the infamous dj Ace Ramos, Up Dharma Down, Marc Marasigan, Katsy Lee, and many others. I can't wait!

Impromptu Beach Trip

My siblings and I went to Batangas early this month to get a break from the Christmas craze and the bustling city of Manila. It was a fun day, we got to fly kites, play with my niece's adorable dog, as well as  continue reading the first book of a good series entitled, The Wheel of Time. Of course, I didn't miss the chance to take my camera out on an adventure. I think it was probably the second reason as to why I crawled out of my rock, er, room. I haven't shot landscapes in awhile and I know the beach is the perfect place for more practice.

The weather was perfect - except for the visible clouds which stopped me from seeing the sun set. It was also really windy as well. There were only a few people, mostly couples, at the beach with us.

Reading that book was such a journey in itself.

Meet Frowie, my niece's dog. Hehe.

Lately, I've been trying out and have been experimenting on HDRs. Some turned out better than I thought it would.

And, lastly, my favourite shot of the day. A beach version of The Beatle's iconic photo.

Joey

One certain Saturday was filled with laughter and joy that cannot be fully expressed by friends who haven't seen each other in a long time. It also consisted of waiting in line for fried chicken, choosing whether to watch a movie or not, going in and out of stores without buying anything, and, in relevance to our dear friend Joey's portraits above, posing awkwardly in front cameras in a mall's empty balcony.

I am forever thankful for Joey for being the subject in my photos for the second time--the first can be found in my personal blog (shameless plug)--but also for Shaunna for letting me use her 50mm lens which I have been dying to get since I have become aware of portraiture.

Hopefully, I get to shoot more portraits of other people. I recently just received a 50mm lens as a Christmas gift and I can't wait to use it! If any of you are willing to help me with my love for portraiture by becoming my subject or want to get your portraits taken, hit me up at monica_padillo@yahoo.com. Volunteer tributes are greatly appreciated.
